Institute of Anatomy and Cell Biology Master's Degree Regulations
1. Name: The Institute is approved by the Ministry of Education as the "Institute of Anatomy and Cell Biology, National Yang-Ming University" (hereinafter referred to as the “Institute”).
2. Admission test regulations: For detailed information, please refer to the admissions handbook for the academic year. (Applicants from Group B of the Faculty of Medicine must submit their applications to the Institute at the beginning of the sixth semester, and enroll in the master’s program the following semester pursuant to the Institute’s admission requirements as stated within the admissions handbook.)
3. Registration:
(1) The registration and enrollment of new students shall be handled per the university’s general admission and registration regulations of the current academic year.
(2) All new students accepted must enroll in person at the university within the specified period. Those who fail to do so, and have not received approval for leave, will have their admission revoked.
(3) Students who submit fraudulent documents will be expelled immediately upon discovery.
4. Course requirements:
(1) Required courses:
Anatomy major: Anatomy, 3 credits; Anatomy Lab, 4 credits, Histology, 2 credits; Research Ethics, 0 credit, online course
Cell biology major: Molecular biology, 2 credits; Cell biology, 2 credits; Anatomy, 3 credits; Anatomy Lab, 1 credit; Histology, 2 credits; Histology Lab, 1 credit; Research Ethics, 0 credit, online course
Faculty of Medicine, Group B: Academic Research Ethics, 0 credits; Medical School Core Curriculum, 8 credits (this course is jointly offered by the Master’s Department and the University Department); Physician and Scientist Master Research Project 1, 2 credits, Institute University Department; Physician and Scientist Master Study 2, 2 credits, Institute University Department)
(2) Required courses: Seminar: 8 credits, four semesters
(3) Elective courses: Elective courses: The scope of elective courses is based on the curriculum published by the school’s Academic Affairs Office during the semester, and the required elective subjects must be completed within the school year.
(4) Credit waiver:
Credit
waivers are limited to one-third of the required graduation credits, and require
the permission of the Institute director. Credit waivers are
handled in
accordance with the school's "Student Credit Waiver Guideline".
Students in Group B of the Faculty of Medicine may take the aforementioned courses during 1st-4th grade, and apply for credit waivers during 5th grade. To apply for a credit waiver, your course grade must at least reach 70 points. Please follow the "Student Credit Waiver Guideline". Credit waivers must be submitted within the course add/drop period of the first semester of enrollment. The total amount of credit waivers must not exceed one-half of the credits required for graduation. Thesis credits cannot be waived.
(5) Course selection, addition, and withdrawal are subject to the school's rules and relevant regulations.
5. Duration of study and graduation requirements:
(1) The study duration of the master's program is limited to one to four years.
(2) Graduate students must complete at least 24 credits, including credits for required courses specified by the Institute.
(3) The credits of thesis writing are not included in the total credits required for graduation.
6. Evaluation and grading:
(1) Regulation for performance evaluation: Normal assessments are held by teachers at any time; mid-term and semester examinations are held within the time specified in the school calendar.
(2) The school’s online grade registration system is used for the overall scores of the semester. The scores are entered into the system within two weeks after the final exam and will be saved in the school system permanently.
(3) The academic results of the graduate class are all based on a 100-point grading system, with a full score of 100 points and a passing score of 70 points. The performance score of good conduct is based on an alphabetical grading system, and the passing grade is grade B. Starting from the 104 academic year, students’ scores will be ranked based on an alphabetical grading system, with A+ as the full score and B- as the passing grade. Subjects of special nature may adopt a pass/fail grading system after approval from the school curriculum committee. Matters related to the grade system shall be handled in accordance with our school's "Scores of Student Achievements".
(4) Graduate students who fail a required course must retake that course. If a student fails again when retaking the course, the student will be ordered to withdraw. Students who receive a failing conduct grade will also be ordered to withdraw.
(5) Those who are unable to take the examination as scheduled due to business, illness, or major accidents shall be handled in accordance with the relevant regulations of the school.
7. Advisor and thesis guidance:
The position of graduate student advisor may be held by faculty members from the level of full-time assistant professor (including) and up. The duties of the advisors are:)
(1) Responsibility for the full-time academic guidance of the graduate students, including course selection, reading, research experiments, and dissertation research.
(2) Attendance at the student’s evaluation meetings.
8. Degree examination:
(1) Candidates for a master's degree should complete the application form within the prescribed period, attach past transcripts, and submit an application for the degree examination to the Institute. After reviewal by the advising professor and the institute director, the application, along with a list of the members of the defense committee, will be sent to be processed by the Academic Affairs Office.
(2) Other test-taking conditions: The thesis is approved by the advising professor.
(3) Defense committee: Handled in accordance with the relevant provisions of Article 5 of "Implementation Points of Graduate Degree Examination".
(4) Thesis writing:
1. The thesis writing must be in accordance with the prescribed format. After review and approval by the advisor, the required number of copies (equal to the number of defense committee members) shall be printed and handed over to the committee within one week before the degree examination.
2. All master's and doctoral theses should be written in Chinese or English. If the thesis is plagiarized or fraudulent, it will be given zero points after examination and determination by the Master and Doctor Degree Examination Committee.
(5) Thesis defense:
1. During the degree examination, an originality comparison report should be submitted for the reference of the defense committee. The originality comparison report should be approved by the advising professor, with signed confirmation on the “Program Student Thesis Paper-Markup Agreement”.
2. The test scores are calculated based on the average of the scores given by all present defense committee members. If half (including) or more of the committee members give failing grades, the student will be considered to have failed the examination.
3. The passing score of the degree examination is 70 points, while the full score is 100 points. Starting from the 104 academic year, the graduate student entrance examination is graded based on an alphabetical grading system, with A﹢as the full score and B﹣as the passing grade.
4. Those who fail the thesis examination may apply for a re-examination if their study period has not yet expired. To apply for re-examination, students must fill in the application form within the period specified in the academic calendar. Re-examination will be allowed after the approval of the advising professor, institute director, and Dean. The student will only have one chance for re-examination, and those who fail again will be ordered to withdraw.
5. In addition to the oral examination, the thesis defense may also be subject to a written test or a laboratory test if necessary.
9. Procedures for graduation and application to leave school:
(1) After passing the degree examination, the defense thesis must be revised based on the advice of the defense committee. The final draft must be approved by the advising professor. The written approval agreement must be signed by the advising professor and institute director.
(2) The electronic file of the thesis should be produced in the format prescribed by the Ministry of Education.
(3) There should be numerous copies of the finalized thesis in both hardcover and paperback, each of which must be signed and approved by the advising professor. The required amount of copies, including both hardcover and paperback copies, should be sent to the Academic Affairs Office and the library in accordance with school regulations. In addition, an electronic file should be prepared and supplied to the institute for preservation.
(4) Once the aforementioned materials are duly prepared, they will be sent, along with a degree examination transcript supplied by the Institute, to the registration division of the Academic Affairs Office. Next, after completion of the procedures for leaving school, the student will receive a graduation certificate, and a "Master of Science" degree will be issued.
(5) If for some reason the student is unable to complete the required procedures within the prescribed time limit, and the student’s study period has yet to reach the limit, the student should prepare a statement and the original copy of the degree examination transcript. These documents should then be submitted to the registration division within the prescribed time limit.
10. If certain matters are not covered above, please follow other relevant regulations of the University.
11. This guideline shall be implemented after approval by the Academic Affairs Conference. Amendments shall be reported to the Dean for approval in accordance with administrative procedures.)
